4Ways to Manage Grief
Grief can feel all-consuming and sometimes it’s hard to see around it. Here are a few ways to begin to manage your grief:
- Give yourself permission to feel. Grief is one emotion that is often accompanied by many others like depression, guilt, anxiety, and more. Allow yourself the space to feel and remember these emotions don’t always feel logical, and that’s okay.
- Remember that not everyone processes grief in the same ways or at the same rate. No matter young or old, everyone is capable of feeling grief and some people will begin to work through their grief faster than others.
- Lean on loved ones. In many cases, the people closest to you may also be feeling something similar. Share your experiences and lend a listening ear to theirs; empathy and connection can go a long way in the healing process.
- Reach out to a grief counselor. Grief counseling can help you learn healthy coping mechanisms and provide a safe outlet so that your grief doesn’t control your life.
