Often times, it can be difficult to transition from the hecticness of day-to-day activities into a mindset ready for therapy. It’s easy to get distracted with responsibilities and obligations instead of being fully present for your session. It is often, at times an uncomfortable challenge to put away cell phones and pull back from social media. At Philly Family Life Counseling, we offer the opportunity for art therapy in our reception area to help clients destress and center themselves, before beginning a session. Clients can take advantage of our adult coloring pages for a relaxing way to practice mindfulness.
Why Practice Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a popular buzzword lately, but for good reason! Mindfulness is the act of staying engaged with the present moment, instead of say, trying to do or think of several things at once. We’ve gotten to a point in our hyperactive society where it seems multitasking is the only way to accomplish things, but in reality, sharpening our focus can be much more productive.
Like therapy, practicing mindfulness can be a great idea for anyone, whether you’re struggling with severe anxiety or you just want to improve your concentration. Studies show that benefits of mindfulness include:
- more restful sleep
- increased attention
- enhanced working memory
- reduced stress
- more relationship satisfaction
- improved cognition
- and so much more
Coloring Therapy at Philly Family Life Counseling
Dr. Devers and Associates can work with patients to improve mindfulness through therapy and careful guidance, but there are many techniques, such as coloring, one can use to practice individually. In fact, many of our clients who have been exposed to this mindfulness technique have continued to try coloring at home to further reap the benefits. Everyone is different, so we look forward to helping you find the mindfulness exercises that work for you. If you’re interested in learning about the benefits of mindfulness and how to be more engaged in the present, set up an appointment with Dr. Devers and Associates.
